In honor of New York Fashion Week

Here is my fashion from New York a few weeks ago.

From what I've seen and heard I got pretty lucky with the weather in New York. My husband and I went a couple weeks ago for a quick little weekend trip away. When people heard that we were leaving warm California to "vacation" in New York they thought we were crazy! I must admit I was quite nervous that I didn't pack, or own for that matter, enough warm clothes for winter in New York. What is a girl to do in this scenario? Shop, of course!

Right before we went to New York I went on a bit of a shopping spree. I bought fleece lined leggings and all of the affordable and fashionable long sleeve shirts I could dig up in the California stores. It was quite the mission because all of the stores already had their spring lines out! This actually worked in my favor as most of the items I found were heavily discounted.

The key to dressing well in winter weather is all in the layers. I literally wore two to three pairs of pants day and night. My base layer everyday was thermal pants followed by fleece lined leggings and then topped with stretch denim or jeggings. This really helped take away the frigid bite from the wind.

Over-the-knee boots help fight the cold as well and are really quite practical in cold weather. I scored these Circus by Sam Edelman black leather boots from the Neiman Marcus Outlet for about $100 and let me tell you, they were worth every penny! The chunky heel was easy and comfortable to walk around in even given the snowy conditions. My feet and legs stayed a whole lot warmer as well in these boots. I about froze my toes off in my flat faux leather combat boots and consequently wore these boots for most of my trip. New York involves a lot of walking so comfort most of the times trumps style. However, these boots worked out so well that I love them even more now than when I first bought them!

I found this black and blue faux fur jacket on the clearance rack at Forever 21. It was love at first sight and a perfect match to my Blue Celine bag! The quality is outstanding since it is from their premium collection and the price was so low that it seemed like a mistake. It had been marked down so many times that I ended up paying less than $20 for this blue beauty! It was quite warm, I might add.

Keeping with the layered theme I wore a tight camisole underneath a black mock turtleneck for warmth. I also kept black gloves on me at all times. I was very pleased that I bought the kind of gloves that you can still operate you phone with while wearing. It is no fun having to take your gloves off in the cold every time you want to use your phone.

What I'm Wearing

Black Calvin Klein Pants- $30 from Costco
Fleece Lined Leggings- $8 from  I'm Haute
Circus by Sam Edleman Black Over-the-Knee Boots- $115 from Neiman Marcus Outlets
Indigo Blue Mini Luggage Bag- Celine
Black Mock Turtleneck- $12 from Forever 21
Blue Faux Fur Coat- $16 from Forever 21
Blue Hat- $58 from Nordstrom

I also packed several scarves, thick warm socks and my favorite ear muffs!
Staying haute in the cold isn't so bad... for a few days vacation!
