Midi Skirt Style

I know a lot of people who can't wait for Fall/Winter but I on the other hand am fully embracing this mild weather. We may be nearing the end of October but with temps still in the 70's & 80's I'm keeping my fuzzy sweaters packed away. Instead, I'm opting for more "transitional" pieces like this midi skirt and box top.

Transitional outfits are great for those confusing days when the weather feels a bit like all of the season's rolled into one. These days are typically really cold in the early morning and evening but come the afternoon it feels like a blissful summer day. Since the temperature
ranges so widely it is best to dress neutral. You wouldn't want to wear a sundress because you would be shivering on your way home from work. Vice versa, you would be roasting during lunch in a turtle neck.

Enter the midi skirt to make all of our lives just a little bit easier! But first, what is a midi skirt? 

A midi skirt is a skirt (duh) whose hemline hits at your mid calf... ahh the name makes so much sense now! Midi skirts come in several different shapes and look great on all sizes. If you are self-conscious of your midsection then opt for a flowing midi skirt instead and take your midi to the tailor if you're on the shorter side so that they can shorten the hemline for you a bit. Nude heels are also a great way to elongate your silhouette if you're worried about a midi skirt making you look stumpy.

I paired my midi skirt with my favorite single soled heels. Simple open heels like this are a great choice because the bare leg and foot makes your legs appear longer. I've seen some women wear booties with midi skirts but I'm not a big fan of this combo. I think that booties would fight too much for attention with the low hanging hemline of this skirt. When in doubt keep it simple.

A great feature of this black skirt is the hidden zipper down the back. This genius zipper gives you the option of a slit which makes walking a whole lot easier. I love the look and fit of this midi with the zipper completely zipped but if you need to speed walk anywhere - good luck!

Leather & Chiffon

Summer is my favorite time of year. I love all the vibrant color everywhere, the care-free vibes and the warm inviting weather. This outfit is the perfect option for a warm summer day. Heck, given all the luxe elements you could even dress this up with high-heels and a clutch for a night out if you wanted to. I decided to keep things casual for my day of running errands around town. If you follow me on instagram then you probably know that my hubby and I just purchased our first home together. (eek!) I couldn't be more excited but I'm also super busy with new projects and a mile long to-do list. I am an avid high-heels lover but given our war zone at the new house I opted for cute and comfy sandals instead. They really play down this look and to me they embody the summer spirit.

Neon Orange Pants

I think most people shy away from wearing such loud colors but I find it fun to embrace fashion risks. I've always been drawn to bold styles and unique pieces. When I saw these neon orange pants I instantly felt a connection and although I wasn't quite sure how I would wear them I knew I would find a way. I knew that they would match my Stephen Sprouse Louis Vuitton Speedy and I didn't need to know much more than that. If I fall in love with an odd fashion find and it matches one of my designer hand bags it is pretty much a done deal.

I have had these neon orange pants for several years. I don't wear them too often but I love how I feel when I do. They make a bold statement any season and the best part about them is they are insanely comfortable. Comfort has grown more important to me over the years so I always hold on to pieces that make me feel good and feel good on. Since I don't wear these neon orange pants on a regular basis they have really held up nicely. Below you can watch a quick outfit of the day video that I featured these awesome pants in two years ago.

Camo & Booties

I'm rockin' the military look this Monday! Camouflage is one of those prints that goes in and out of style pretty frequently. Without fail as soon as I think, "oh camo isn't in anymore. I should just donate this or toss it", boom- The army trend comes back in full force. Has this kind of thing happened to you as well? It is safe to say that I have learned my lesson. I plan on hanging onto these cute camouflage shorts as long as they continue to fit me. Printed denim is fun, edgy and these army shorts are super comfy given their stretchy material.

 

I was super excited when I came across these black booties at H&M. I had been searching for a good pair of black ankle boots for almost a year. I thought these ones were perfect until I wore them with a skirt. The thread used to sew these booties together was not really thread at all and it was attacking my ankle! This thick plastic thread cut up my ankles and made it almost impossible to wear without the protection of pants. I tried cutting the ends, this did not help. I tried burning the ends, this did not help either and smelled something awful. Finally I went and got black electrical tape to cover all the sharp spots. I was relieved that I finally found a solution. Now I can wear these awesome little booties without slicing up my ankles and since the electrical tape is black you can't tell that I have tape covering the inside edges of my shoes.

Pop that Haute Pink

When this little black dress arrived in the mail from Le Tote I was beyond excited. I immediately noticed the quality material and craftsmanship. Upon inspecting the tag I realized that it was French Connection. No wonder it felt like an expensive dress, it was! Well at least it was expensive to me. I usually save most of my money for my designer handbag addiction so there is little left for designer clothes and shoes. Darn. Don't get me wrong though, I love all sorts of designer fashion and would love to be dripping in labels from head to toe but that simply isn't practical. Instead I find it fun to mix pricey and penny conscious items together. In all honesty I've never owned anything French Connection so I simply could not wait to slip this baby on. Once I did I was blown away again because it fit like a glove! I felt like it was specifically tailored for my figure and I instantly began rationalizing in my head why I should purchase it. As a member of Le Tote I can buy this classic and timeless dress at a discounted price. When I think of how often I can wear it, that it will never go out of style and how great the quality is it seems like a no brainer. What do you think, should I buy this dress?

For some added fun I wore my hot pink peep-toe bow pumps which perfectly match my Louis Vuitton Rose Pop Vernis Alma Bag. This pink purse was a gift to myself in 2009 and my only regret is that I did not purchase more in this color. Louis Vuitton has not released anything in this color since then and  I really hope that they bring it back one day! I was lucky enough to snatch up the carry-on suitcase, makeup bag, ballerina flats and wooden wedges in Rose Pop but I doubt I will ever get enough of this color. The vibrant pink is such a happy color that I could stare at it for days.

Classy pop of color

I was so excited when my Le Tote came this month with this beautiful black and white houndstooth dress! I instantly knew how I would wear it... with my brand new Celine bag (duh) and my matching blue pumps for a classy pop of color. I seriously love this outfit. The fit of the dress is just right with cap sleeves, structured lines and a feminine A-line flare. It came with the black skinny belt and I added a black statement collar necklace for added contrast. The overall feel of this ensemble is simple and chic. You could wear this classic dress just about anywhere. I wore it to the office and to lunch with my sister-in-law.

My Thanksgiving Outfit

Hey everyone! So I finally got around to posting pics of my outfit of the day from Thanksgiving dinner with some of my family in San Diego. My four day holiday weekend was long and eventful... good eventful though! Not that dysfunctional sort of eventful that is often associated with holidays. I hope you all had a wonderful time with your friends and/or family as well!

I consider myself lucky because I didn't have to put much thought into choosing my Thanksgiving outfit this year. Normally I obsess and stress over finding the perfect outfit for events and special ocassions but this year my outfit was delivered to my door earlier in the week from Le Tote. I describe their subscription service in a previous blog post you can read about here. They sent me the black blazer with vegan leather trim, animal print chiffon dress and black and white earrings which paired beautifully together for a family appropriate yet still fashionable Thanksgiving outfit. I simply added a black skinny belt that came with a skirt I bought a couple years ago to define my waist and completed the look with simple single soled high heels. I also received a peplum blouse and bracelet in my tote that are not pictured.

I didn't wear the black blazer most of the day because the weather outside was gorgeous and the house was warm from all the cooking. Sometimes I will top off an outfit with a blazer or jacket of some sort for family events but this animal print chiffon dress was modest enough and totally adorable on its own! It is completely lined everywhere except the sleeves for a flirty yet still classy peep of skin. 

 The below pictures are after we all ate dinner and dessert... as you can see I ditched my belt and switched my high-heels out for a black pair of ballerina flats. The story behind my belt-less frock is rather comical. Picture this, there are about twelve of us around the table, we have all finished eating and are going around in a circle saying what we are thankful for when my belt decides that it has had enough turkey, mashed potatoes, corn and bread rolls... POP, there it goes! Yep, somehow my belt gave up when I needed it most but the show must go on and everyone is in a food coma at this point anyways. After a huge Thanksgiving dinner comfort trumps cuteness... so I threw my belt in my purse and said, "bring on the flats!"
